The Wharf Rat Club is one of the more famous and iconic of the North Wharf cottages. The club was founded in 1915. It was originally a general store where men sat around a potbellied stove and traded island stories. The club has no bylaws, dues, or membership. Acceptance is based on the ability to tell a good story.

The cottages of Old North Wharf sit on stilts in the boat basin. The gold dome of the Unitarian Universalist Church is seen in the distance.

This two-story cottage, Essex, has all the amenities of an in-town, larger home with one extra advantage: the water all around. The double boathouse doors are part of the original architecture.
